Duchess of Cornwall in tears at Mark Shand’s funeral

Britain’s Duchess of Cornwall broke down into tears at her brother’s funeral.

The 66-year-old royal was joined by Prince Charles at the funeral for Mark Shand, a conservationist and travel writer, who died last week aged 62 after falling and hitting his head in New York.

Camilla, who opted for a polka dot black and white suit, was joined by her daughter, Laura Lopes, at Holy Trinity Church in Stourpaine, Dorset, South West England earlier today (01.05.14) at the same church where her father Major Bruce Shand’s funeral took place in 2006.

Mark’s wicker coffin was carried inside by pallbearers while ‘The Elephant from The Carnival of the Animals’ by Frech composer Camille Saint-Saens was played.

The congregation then sung the hymn ‘Praise My Soul The King of Heaven’ before Tom Parker Bowles read ‘Farewell my Friend’ by Rabindranath Tagore.

A choir sung ‘Somewhere from A Westside Story’ and the final hymn was ‘The Lord of the Dance’ before guests left with ‘The Elephant Song’ from Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’, reports The Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Mark was known for his dedication to protecting the Asian elephant, and since his passing, conservation charity Elephant Family – which has received many offers of support since Mark’s death – have launched the Mark Shand Memorial Fund, which will raise money for the cause.
