Duchess Catherine launches mental health website

Duchess Catherine has launched a new mental health website for primary schools.
The Duchess of Cambridge visited Roe Green Junior School in north London on Tuesday (23.01.18) to launch Mentally Healthy Schools, a Heads Together initiative which will be available to every primary school in the UK and is designed to give teachers and staff the clarity and practical resources they need to support pupils.
In a speech, the 36-year-old duchess – who has kids Prince George, four, and two-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte with husband Prince William, 35 – said: "When we intervene early in life, we help avoid problems that are much more challenging to address in adulthood.
"My own commitment is to the youngest and most vulnerable in their early years – babies, toddlers and primary school-age pupils – and to supporting those who care for them, including teachers.
"The ultimate goal is that no primary school teacher, anywhere in the country, should in future have to wonder where to turn when it comes to the wellbeing of children in their care."
While developing the project, more than 1,500 online resources were reviewed and evaluated by a quality assurance group to ensure they are suitable for a primary school audience.
Claire Thomson, a former head teacher and one of the advisors to the website, told the official Royal website: "I can see this website becoming a favourite go-to site for information about the many aspects of mental health.
"I think it is really important that all school staff feel that the information applies to them as well, not just to teachers. So, no matter what their role in the school, they need to have an understanding and empathy towards all the children."
