Dropkick Murphys announce free memorial show for Alex Pretti and Renee Good

Dropkick Murphys are hosting a memorial concert in Minneapolis for Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

The Shipping Up To Boston Celtic-punk rock band are set to perform a show at the city’s Palace Theatre on March 6, and they have announced a special acoustic gig earlier in the day to paid tribute to the individuals killed by ICE agents earlier this year.

In a statement, frontman Ken Casey said: “We are so proud of how Minnesota stood up and met this moment and we are so sad for the community and for the Pretti and Good families for what they’ve gone through.

“[So] it is an honor to come down and be able to play some music for the people and let them know we stand in solidarity with them.”

The show will also feature local acts Wild Colonial Bhoys, DJ Jacques, Kiss the Tiger, Sophie Hiroko, Chutes, Laamar, Obi Original, and the Shackletons.

Fans will be able to watch the concert on a livestream, while locals will be able to attend at the Black Forest Inn parking lot, which is close to where Pretti was killed.

The hotel is located on 26th and Nicollet Avenue, which is also known as Eat Street.

Meanwhile, although the event is free to attend, the show will still serve as a fundraiser for a number of local groups and aid efforts, including Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Show Up For East Street, Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, rent support, and the South Minneapolis Families Fund.

Anna Schmitz, executive director of Whittier Alliance, added: “We’re looking forward to having a time for the community to come together to honor Alex’s life and show the strength, resilience, and beauty of this neighborhood.”

The event will stream globally on the AlobishICE.live website.

Dropkick Murphys have long been outspoken critics of US President Donald Trump and his administration.

They recently dropped a new protest song Citizen I.C.E., which is a reworking of their track Citizen CIA, from 2005 album The Warrior’s Code.

Last year, the group dropped its 13th studio album For The People, which saw them reunite with longtime band member Al Barr on The Vultures Circle High, five years after he stepped away to look after is ill mother.

The record also features guest appearances from the Scratch, the Mary Wallopers and Billy Bragg.
