Doctor Who spin-off axed

‘Doctor Who’ spin-off ‘Class’ has been axed.
The BBC has announced that it will not be renewing the show – which follows a group of teenagers at a school in London where the Time Lord’s former companion Clara Oswald, played by Jenna Coleman, worked – for a second season.
BBC 3 controller Damian Kavanagh told Radio Times: "There was nothing wrong with it. I thought [lead writer] Patrick Ness did a great job, he explored an amazing world. In all honesty it didn’t really land for us on BBC3; some shows don’t and I have to make decisions about what we’re going to do from a drama point of view, and what we did after ‘Class’ was ‘Clique’ which worked really well for us."
Patrick wrote on Twitter: "I’m not an unopinionated man, but all I’ll say re the Class news is how proud I am of that show & how lucky I am to have had the opportunity. What a great experience to make it… Would that things were different (sic)."
He added: "Ah, thanks for all the love about this, you beauties. And as I’ve said, pity no season 2: Weeping Angels planet, shirtless wood-chopping… (sic)"
The first series of the spin-off left fans with a cliffhanger after the fan-favourite villains from the main programme the Weeping Angels plotted world domination inside the school.
The first episode got one million viewers but by the end of the season, it had dropped to 300,000.
‘Class’ starred Katherine Kelly, Greg Austin, Sophie Hopkins, Vivian Oparah and Fady Elsayed and was the fourth TV spin-off from ‘Doctor Who’ following ‘K9 and Company’ in 1981 and ‘Torchwood’ and ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’.
