Karen Gillan says her ‘Doctor Who’ experience helped her when filming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.
Gillan – who appeared on the popular BBC sci-fi show between 2010 and 2012 – was cast in the role of Nebula in the latest Marvel flick and said it was easy to make the transition.
She told the Radio Times magazine: "There are actually a lot of similarities because it’s sci-fi. There’s a lot of green screen and reacting to things that aren’t there, so I feel like I was trained up for it.
"But the main difference is that everything is just bigger in scale. More set, more people… just a bigger budget."
The 26-year-old actress also revealed that ‘Doctor Who’ helped her to secure the lead role in ‘Oculus’, a physiological horror film directed by Mike Flanagan.
She said: "[Director Mike Flanagan] is a really big ‘Doctor Who’ fan and he Skyped with me when I was in my bedroom in Scotland in my parents’ house.
"He was drinking out of a TARDIS mug – but he didn’t realise he was drinking out of a TARDIS mug – and I was like, ‘I’ve totally got this role!’"
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ opens in UK cinemas on August 1.
