Disney shuffles release dates for Marvel films

Disney has rescheduled its superhero film release dates following Marvel and Sony’s collaboration on a new ‘Spider-Man’ franchise.

The much-anticipated film is set for release on July 28, 2017 and has led to four Marvel films being handed new release dates of their own.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’, which was originally planned for the same date as the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie, has been shifted to November 3, 2017, while ‘Black Panther’ will now be released on July 6, 2018.

What’s more, the ‘Captain Marvel’ movie has been rescheduled for November 2, 2018, with ‘Inhumans’ being pushed to July 12, 2019.

The studio has also confirmed that both halves of the two-part third installment of the ‘Avengers’ franchise are to follow the earlier plan, meaning ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1’ will still be released on May 4, 2018 and ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 2’ will hit cinemas on May 3, 2019.

Bob Iger, the chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, which owns Marvel Entertainment, recently explained that the company is looking forward to working with "one of Marvel’s great characters".

He said: "We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."
