Disney is working on a reboot of ‘The Rocketeer’.
The 1991 movie – based on the 1980s comic book – featured Jennifer Connelly as the female lead but, according to The Hollywood Reporter the new film "will be headlined by a black female character".
The original movie starred Billy Campbell as stunt pilot Cliff Secord, who discovers a rocket pack and becomes the hero known as The Rocketeer, while Jennifer played his actress girlfriend, Jenny Blake.
Her character was a damsel in distress but in the reboot, the leading lady will be a young African-American female pilot who works to prevent an evil rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology.
It is not yet clear who the actress taking on the role will be as the movie is still in development.
Secord was last seen fighting Nazis, six years before the events of the new movie, which is set during the Cold War, take place.
Max Winkler, son of ‘Happy Days’ star Henry Winkler, and Matthew Spicer are writing the script while Brigham Taylor, L.A. Clippers star Blake Griffin and Carolina Panthers football player Ryan Kalil are producing.
