Dermot O’Leary not expecting to win National Television Award

Dermot O’Leary expects to lose to Ant & Dec at the National Television Awards again.

The ‘X Factor’ host is nominated for Best Entertainment Presenter at the annual ceremony – which he will present for the fifth year – but thinks the popular Geordie duo will walk away with the prize for the 14th time.

He told heat magazine: "Me, Keith Lemon and Bradley Walsh might as well give it to them now. In fact, there should be an award about who’s going to be a runner-up to Ant and Dec."

‘The X Factor’ is nominated for Best Talent Show and Dermot doesn’t think programme chief Simon Cowell will be very happy if it fails to win.

Asked how he thinks Simon will react to losing, he said: "Badly. Even if we were playing ‘Strictly’ [Come Dancing] at tiddlywinks, he’d want to win."

While Dermot is comfortable in front of the camera now, he recently admitted he used to vomit before every live TV appearance.

He said: "I first started on T4 and used to throw up every Sunday. Every single Sunday I was so nervous about going on air."

The 41-year-old presenter – who is married to TV and film producer Dee Koppang – said that the pressure of hosting the Saturday night primetime television series has lessened over time, but that nerves still take hold of him before the show begins.

He continued: "You just get used to it after a while. And it’s a weird thing to say, but the 30 seconds before the ‘X Factor’ starts, the doors come out like that… those first 30 seconds are the most terrifying of the weekend."
