Denise van Outen reveals Neighbours bosses wanted ‘English actress’ for Prue role

Denise van Outen got the call for ‘Neighbours’ because producers wanted "an English actress" to play her character.
The former ‘EastEnders’ star has been shooting her scenes as Prue Wallace – the mother of Jemma Donovan’s alter-ego Harlow Robinson – in Australia over the past few weeks, and she has let fans know some teasers about the plot.
Speaking on ‘The Ray D’Arcy Show’, she said: "I’ve just spent the last few weeks in Australia.
"It came about because the producer wanted an English actress to play the mother of a character who was already in the show called Harlow, who is played by Jemma Donovan, who is Jason Donovan’s daughter.
"She brings up her child in the UK and then the child, Harlow, goes to Australia to seek out her relatives and that’s how I end up going over to Australia."
Denise previously admitted it was a "privilege" to be asked to join the cast of ‘Neighbours’, and revealed her alter-ego will "stir things up" in Erinsborough.
She said: "I am thrilled to be joining the cast of one the world’s most iconic shows, ‘Neighbours’.
"To be asked is a privilege and I am very excited to get to work on a really fun storyline first in London and then heading over to Melbourne.
"I can’t say too much just yet but my character Prue is heading to Ramsay Street to stir things up and I can’t wait."
‘Good Morning Britain’ roving reporter Richard Arnold will also make a cameo appearance in some of her scenes as Graham, a guy who exerts an unhealthy influence over Prue.
He said: "I always knew my career would hit a ‘dead end’ eventually but I never dreamed it would do so in such spectacular fashion joining the cast of ‘Neighbours’, home to the most famous cul-de-sac in television.
"G’Day Britain."
