Demi Lovato recalls ‘terrible’ Met Gala experience

Demi Lovato has recalled her "terrible experience" at the Met Gala which caused her to walk out and attend an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting instead.
The 25-year-old singer has been sober for over five years after having checked herself into rehab when she was battling with substance abuse and an eating disorder, but has claimed that in 2016 she almost relapsed after having a "miserable" time at the annual celebrity fundraising event.
Speaking to Billboard magazine, Demi said: "I had a terrible experience. This one celebrity was a complete b***h and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink … I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on – millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting. And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala – fake and sucking the fashion industry’s d**k."
The ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ star has been open about her struggles with addiction and mental health, and has even teamed up with CAST therapy centres – where she previously went for treatment, and where she now works as co-owner – to offer free therapy sessions to her fans at her string of North American tour dates.
And Demi recently admitted she wants to help "inspire" her fans with her story, as she hopes it will help them "make a change" in their lives.
She said: "It’s important that you make time for the things that are very important to you and CAST is something that is very near and dear to my heart. I went through the program myself. That’s how I got sober.
"To be able to co-own it now is a dream, and it’s a great way to inspire my fans before the show and kind of check in with them and get them ready for later, in hopes that it inspires them to do something with their lives, make a change and hopefully learn to love themselves."
CAST founder Mike Bayer will be offering free group therapy sessions to Demi’s fans who have signed up beforehand, which will be centred on mental health and wellness.
Speaking previously in a statement about the therapy sessions, Demi said: "Mike and CAST Centers played a vital part in my recovery and I think it’s important to helping start hard but necessary conversations about mental health and addiction recovery. I’m really excited to bring them on tour with me again in hopes to reach and inspire thousands of fans."
