Declan Donnelly didn’t tell sidekick Ant McPartlin that he was going to propose to his girlfriend.
The 39-year-old television personality is currently in Australia hosting the 14th series of ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ with his long term co-star, but confessed his decision to pop the question to girlfriend Ali Astall was a spur of the moment decision which he hadn’t discussed with his mate.
Talking of his engagement, the star said: "There was no special reason. It just seemed like the right time. I just did it. It’s nice. I’ve had an amazing year,"
The ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ presenter has been dating the talent manager for a year-and-a-half, but didn’t ask for any relationship advice from his partner in crime – who has been married to his wife Lisa Armstrong for eight years – as he wanted to take the plunge on his own.
When asked if he had been involved, Ant gushed: "No, he did it all himself. I’m very proud of him. Good lad."
Despite appearing alongside each other as the famous duo for almost two decades, Dec admitted that Ant – who celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday (18.11.14) – has not been asked to be best man at his wedding.
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: "He hasn’t been asked yet. He has got to wait to be asked. There is plenty of time for all that."
