David Zowie given five Bowie-inspired names

David Zowie’s dad gave him five David Bowie-inspired names.

The 34-year-old DJ – who has achieved a summer hit with his single ‘House Every Weekend’ – has revealed his mum shortened his name as a youngster because his David Bowie-obsessed father gave him such a long moniker.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Basically it started off that I had quite a long name and my mum stepped in, adamant for him to change it. It was originally David Zowie Ziggy Stardust Aladdin Sane Thin White Duke Twig the Wonder Kid, because my dad was a crazy David Bowie fan and he changed his name to David Bowie when he was about 16. He was obviously obsessed at the time, so yeah. He gave me every single name, every single alias possible to do with David Bowie. So now it’s just David Zowie."

Instead, the hitmaker’s name is now inspired by the real son of David Bowie, who was named Zowie Bowie but who is now known as Duncan Jones.

But David said he enjoys the musical legacy linked to his name and revealed the ‘Let’s Dance’ singer actually got in contact with his father, who is still a huge fan, a few years ago.

He added: "I’ve also got a cassette, because my dad got ill, and David Bowie sent a cassette wishing him to get well and inviting him for breakfast one day, so I’ve got that here as well, so there’s even more of a connection."
