David Walliams scared of COVID-19 during Britain’s Got Talent auditions

David Walliams was scared of catching the coronavirus after shaking hands with ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ fans.

The ITV talent show held its auditions back in January before the start of the pandemic, and now the 49-year-old judge admitted he regrets coming into contact with others as he fears he might have helped spread the deadly respiratory disease.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: "To be honest, when we were filming the show back in January I can’t remember anyone even mentioning coronavirus.

"If we had known back then that there was going to be this huge pandemic we wouldn’t have been walking around shaking everyone’s hands!"

The programme’s live shows – which were due to take place in May – were postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic but the first of five pre-recorded episodes are now due to air on Saturday September 5th at 8pm.

And David is "excited" to be reunited with his fellow judges, including Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell.

He added: "But I’m really excited to finally be back with the others because it just feels so different having not done the shows in May like we normally do.

"It’s been quite a long time apart from each other and what’s weird as well is we haven’t really seen anyone because we’ve all been in lockdown!

"It’s strange trying to get your head round the whole thing. I’m excited to be working with them all again but it’s going to feel so different with all the social distance measures in place."

The news came after it was revealed Ashley Banjo will step in for Simon Cowell on the ‘BGT’ panel after the music mogul broke his back recently and had to undergo surgery.

A post on the ‘BGT’ Instagram read: "It’s official! The amazing @ashleybanjogram will be stepping in as Guest Judge for the #BGT Semi-Finals while @simoncowell recovers from his recent back operation.

"We can’t wait to see you back on Britain’s Got Talent, Ashley! (sic)"
