David Walliams: BGT Champions is a ‘risk’

David Walliams has admitted it is a "risk" for UK acts to return to ‘Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions’.
The best-of show has so far seen just one British act, MerseyGirls, make it to the final, with the likes of Ashleigh Butler, Paul Potts and Lost Voice Guy losing out to overseas contestants in the heats but the 48-year-old judge insisted it isn’t a "humiliation" for them to crash out as it’s such a "warm" programme and they get the chance to shine in the spotlight once again.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I think it is a risk because you’re a winner already, aren’t you?
"But then I think the show is warm, and even if you don’t necessarily get through to the final, it’s not a humiliation is it?
"It’s just the audience has voted for someone else, so hopefully no one will come away feeling like, ‘Oh I regret it.’
"The acts all want to do it because they love being on ‘BGT’, they enjoy being back on TV, regardless of how far they get in the competition."
And David – who is joined on the judging panel by Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon – thinks it’s nice for the audience and viewers at home to see how life has changed for some of the most famous contestants.
He said: "It’s kind of interesting to follow up on people’s stories.
"You realise the show has been going 13 years so you see people like Connie Talbot and Paul Potts who were on the very first series and we get to find out how the show has changed their lives."
