David Tennant wants Peppa Pig role

David Tennant wants a role in ‘Peppa Pig’.

The ‘Broadchurch’ actor has two young children, daughter Olive, three, and 20-month-old son Wilfred, with wife Georgia Moffett, and is stepfather to her son Ty, 12, from a previous relationship and because he’s a parent he admits he doesn’t get to watch much television apart from kids’ programmes.

He’s up for voicing a character in cartoon ‘Peppa Pig’ because he thinks he would get "genuine approval" if he starred in a show actually watched by his children.

Asked what shows he is a fan of in a BBC Radio 1 interview, he said: "I watch a lot of children’s television, mostly I watch children’s television.

"[Would I voice a character on Peppa Pig?] Of course I would."

Speaking about the quality of British children’s TV, he added: "CBeebies is the only place I’d get genuine approval for working on. The children’s television in our country is of very high quality because if you flick on channels not from our country there’s a lot of rubbish, so CBeebies and CBBC should be something we’re proud of."

Tennant recently admitted he doesn’t see "the point" in holidays and would rather just stay at home with his family when he isn’t working.

He said: "These days I don’t really see the point of holidays. I never quite know what you’re supposed to do.

"It changes a bit when you’ve got kids but I’m very happy staying at home and pottering around. I’m away so much for work that when I’ve got time off I just want to stay in London."

However, the Scottish actor hasn’t always been so apathetic towards getaways, admitting that he has fond memories of holidaying on an island off the coast of Scotland as a youngster.

The former ‘Doctor Who’ star joked: "It was everything you’d expect of a beach holiday in Scotland – freezing temperatures, getting stung by jellyfish and avoiding the sewage outlet as you tried to swim in the sea. If there was a glimpse of sun, there was an imperative to put your trunks on even if it was pretty miserable. But that’s what childhood memories are all about isn’t it? I loved it."
