David Suchet would ‘love’ to do a Poirot film

David Suchet would "love" to star in a ‘Poirot’ movie.
The 71-year-old actor – who played the Belgian detective in the Dame Agatha Christie TV adaptation from 1989 to 2013 – would be up for portraying the beloved character in a film, but wouldn’t do another TV show in the role.
Speaking on ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (06.02.19), he said: "I’d do the movie but I wouldn’t do another television show. But I’d do the movie. I’d love to do that."
David played Poirot closely to how Agatha wrote him because he felt her readers expected a character who would match what she had imagined, but admitted he considered quitting over a wardrobe issue.
He said: "That was my brief. From the Agatha Christie estate as well because the audience was mainly a readership and they wanted the readership to see what Agatha had created and that’s one of the reasons I did what I did.
"I had my brief and I wanted to do it as she wrote it and I studied and studied and studied.
"I knew what he would wear on certain occasions. And when I wasn’t allowed to do that, because they wanted to do something different, I said ‘Well, no, if I’m going to be Agatha Christie’s Poirot I must be him in totally and not just in part.’ "
What’s more, ‘The Way We Live Now’ actor was adamant he didn’t want to play Poirot in scripts that were written after the legendary writer’s death
He said: "I’d done every story she’d ever written and there was no need to go on in stories she hadn’t written. And the title of my series was ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot’."
