David Gandy: Social media makes people depressed

David Gandy thinks social media is causing people to feel "depressed".
The 37-year-old model has as many as 700,000 followers on Instagram and more than 100,000 followers on Twitter – but has warned of the dangers of living through the lens of social media.
He said: "It is something people need to look at. People are depressed. In a world where we are supposed to be so diverse and communicative, I see people put a phone or tablet on a dinner table."
David warned that social media users can easily build up an unrealistic image based on photos posted online.
But he rubbished the suggestion that his own body image is unrealistic, insisting he works extremely hard to maintain his enviable physique.
David told Campaign: "I train like an athlete and you don’t look at an athlete and say their body image is unrealistic."
In fact, David admitted last year that he works out "five times a week" for two months prior to shooting a new campaign.
The dark-haired hunk opened up about his preparation to promote Dolce and Gabbana’s Light Blue fragrance, revealing he trained almost every day for a solid two months to be in the best shape possible.
Speaking during the promotional campaign for the brand, which he has been the face of since 2006, David shared: "It was a couple months of quite intense training. I’ve skied since I was six so the skiing thing was quite natural, quite easy, which was good.
"Well I train anyway, obviously, but when you’re going into a shoot like that then you train probably a good two months before and go maybe four or five times a week."
