David Gandy is a petrolhead

David Gandy is a "complete car nut".
The 36-year-old model – who is currently the face of the luxury fashion house Dolce and Gabbana – has described himself as a massive motoring enthusiast, and has revealed he loves nothing more than getting dirty underneath a classic Jaguar in his spare time because he loves vehicle restoration.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz about his hobby, the dark-haired hunk said: "I’ve been working with Jaguar as sort of a friend of the brand. I’ve always been a Jaguar fan I’m a complete car nut so I just wanted to support another British brand, seeing the changes from a car company in 2008 where everyone thought they were a bit of an old fashioned car to the launch of the new car. Jaguar are ahead of the pack really.
"And I’ve done a race called the Mille Miglia, which is a thousand mile race and you have to do it in a pre-1957 classic car, so I raced two classic Jaguars. We’re soon to be restoring a classic Jaguar with a new classic division as I also restore classic cars."
And the catwalk icon – who is a friend of the car company and recently attended the global reveal event in Los Angeles for the I-PACE, Jaguar’s first all-electric car, which was revealed to guests using pioneering virtual reality technology – has revealed other car manufacturers are surprised Jaguar have managed to rapidly produce such great vehicles.
Speaking about the event, he said: "I was also filming in a car called the XKSS and there’s a long story, but basically there was a car built in 1957 that they only built 16 of, and then the factory burnt down. And going into the archives for Jaguar I found the chasse numbers, so they are reproducing the last nine remaining cars.
"We were doing some filming with the one off development model, which was a little bit stressful to be honest – I literally was driving it and then it’s going on stand at the LA motor show, so I really didn’t want to be the person that damaged a one off car. It is an incredible car and it’s an important launch, the other manufacturers can’t quite believe that Jaguar have produced something so quickly being all electric and streamline."
