David Bowie was working on more music before death

David Bowie was working on another album prior to his death, according to his saxophonist Donny McCaslin.
The iconic musician passed away from liver cancer in January this year, just two days after the release of his last album ‘Blackstar’. Whilst many believe the album was a farewell to his fans, 50-year-old Donny says it "didn’t seem" like ‘Blackstar’ was the end.
Speaking to The Times newspaper, Donny said: "It certainly didn’t seem that it (‘Blackstar’) would be his last record.
"He was going to start writing new music – or maybe he had started; it wasn’t quite clear – but he was in the process of planning a new recording with us. I don’t think ‘Blackstar’ was this goodbye thing."
Donny also claimed that the ‘Life on Mars’ hitmaker was planning on appearing on stage for the first time in a decade, although he wouldn’t have done a full tour of the album.
He added: "Clearly there wasn’t going to be a ‘Blackstar’ tour but he was going to sit in with us at (New York jazz club) the Village Vanguard. It would just have been him turning up unannounced after rehearsing during the day."
Earlier this year, Donny and other former collaborators of the ‘Space Oddity’ singer – including bassist Tim Lefebvre, drummer Mark Guiliana and Jason Lindner – announced they would be releasing their own album inspired by Bowie.
The album – entitled ‘Beyond Now’ – includes a number of original tracks written by Donny, as well as cover versions of songs by Bowie, Deadmau5, and The Chainsmokers.
Donny said of the record: "David Bowie was a visionary artist whose generosity, creative spirit, and fearlessness will stay with me the rest of my days. ‘Beyond Now’ is dedicated to him and to all who loved him."
