Danny Dyer says he didn’t mean to manhandle Mary Berry at the TV Choice Awards.
The ‘EastEnders’ star was accused of accosting the ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge while drunk at the event last month, but he insists it was blown out of proportion and he "loves" Mary.
Speaking at the Inside Soap Awards at DSTRKT in London on Wednesday night (01.10.14), the 37-year-old told star BANG Showbiz: "People said I accosted her and I was really upset as I love Mary Berry, and everything about her."
Danny – who picked up the Inside Soap gong for Best Actor for his portrayal of Mick Carter – insisted he has smoothed things over with the 79-year-old culinary queen.
He explained: "Me and Mary are sweet, Mary ain’t got a problem with me. I think she’s lovely and I love her. I respect her and I just wanted to give her a cuddle, that’s it."
Although he wouldn’t suggest anyone else reaches the same stage of inebriation at such an event, Danny says it was a pleasant surprise the next day when he realised that he had won the award for Best Soap Actor at the TV Choice Awards.
He quipped: "I wouldn’t advise anyone to accept an award off your head. It was a nice feeling when I woke up the next morning and there was an award by my bed and I thought, ‘I done it!’ "
