Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright go head to head

‘EastEnders’ stars Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright will go head to head at the 2014 National Television Awards.

The ‘Football Factory’ actor and the 38-year-old actress have both been shortlisted for the Serial Drama Performance prize following their first year on the BBC One soap.

The on-screen couple have had a tough year of storylines including Linda suffering a brutal rape at the hands of Mick’s nephew Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) and their son Johnny (Sam Strike) coming out as gay.

Danny and Kellie will also go up against ‘Emmerdale’ actress Verity Rushworth (Donna Windsor) and ‘Hollyoaks’ star Nikki Sanderson, who plays Maxine Minniver in the Channel 4 soap, in the category.

Fellow ‘The X Factor’ judges Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell – who both rejoined the show last year following a three year hiatus – will also battle it out for the TV Judge award at the ceremony hosted by the ITV talent show’s presenter Dermot O’Leary.

The 41-year-old star will also attempt to stop Ant & Dec from taking home the Entertainment Presenter gong for the 14th time at the awards show – which takes place at The O2 in London on January 21 – alongside Keith Lemon and Bradley Walsh.

Meanwhile, ‘The Imitation Game’ star Benedict Cumberbatch has been nominated for best Drama Performance for ‘Sherlock’ and will hope to beat Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire, ‘Downton Abbey’ actress Dame Maggie Smith and Sheridan Smith for her performance in ‘Cilla’ to take home the prize.

The results will be revealed at the NTA ceremony live on ITV at 7.30pm on January 21, 2015.
