Damon Albarn: Rockers need to work more

Damon Albarn thinks rock stars need to do more work.

The former Blur frontman believes artists should follow his example and put more time into their music rather than waiting for inspiration to pop into their heads.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, he said: "When I’m at home, I work nine-to-five, five days a week, period. If you do that, you get a f***ing lot done!

"The mythology of rock ‘n’ roll encourages you to wait for inspiration. But if you go back to early songwriters, it was just their job. They got up in the morning, had a gin and tonic and worked.

"I’m the same. I just don’t do the gin and tonic!"

Meanwhile, the 46-year-old hunk would love to team up with former Oasis star Noel Gallagher at some point because he believes they’d make good music together.

He explained: "I love the craic of having fun with other musicians. Noel is a great musician and such a funny guy to be around.

"He’s great company, and sometimes that’s as good a reason as any to make music with someone."

Damon is currently busy with his first solo album ‘Everyday Robots’, which was released in April, but he recently revealed he’s signed on to write a musical.

He said earlier this month: "It’s funny for me to say ‘I’m writing a musical’, but, yes, that’s what I’m doing next.

"It’s something I’ve always wanted to do because musicals are great when they’re done well."
