Dame Barbara Windsor’s life story to be played out on screen

Dame Barbara Windsor will have her life story played out on the BBC.
The 78-year-old actress is set to be the focus of a 90-minute special titled ‘Babs’, which will document her life, and will be penned by former ‘EastEnders’ writer Tony Jordan.
She said: "Tony knows the real me and what makes me tick. I was particularly taken by the way he wants to tell my tale, which is not in the way people will expect. Tony has captured the moments that have made me who I am today. I am honoured and excited that Tony and the BBC have commissioned this."
The television show will be performed as a stage show and will include her childhood, her marriage to Ronnie Knight and her past acting roles.
Of the project, Tony added: "There’s a reason that, as a nation, we’ve all taken Barbara to our hearts, I think it is because she’s always been one of us, never forgetting where she came from.
"That unbelievably rare combination of someone in the business with the highest level of professionalism, but without any of the airs and graces to go with it. She’s a national treasure and one of the most remarkable women I’ve met. I only hope this film will do her justice."
Meanwhile, Barbara just recently bowed out of her role as Peggy Mitchell in ‘EastEnders’ and admits she was left tearful after filming her final scenes.
She said: "They were hard but, sorry I’m going to get upset, I did my crying afterwards, I had to. I had to give this performance and she’s quite tough and I hope people accept the way I played her with cancer because I have to tell all the viewers that everybody’s different."
