Daisy Ridley: I don’t think Rey is a Jedi

Daisy Ridley doesn’t think her ‘Star Wars’ character is a Jedi.
The 24-year-old actress’ alter ego was one of the two main characters in ‘The Force Awakens’ and the movie ended with the feisty orphan seemingly on the path to become a Jedi Knight after she discovered her powers.
However, Daisy isn’t sure if Rey will be mentored in the ways of The Force in ‘Episode VIII’ by Luke Skywalker – played by Mark Hamill.
Speaking backstage at the MTV Movie Awards in Burbank, California, on Saturday (09.04.16), she told MTV: "I don’t know if I am a Jedi … I don’t think I am.
"We’ve had this debate as to whether Leia is because she uses her Force powers. Just because she’s not like, ‘Oh I’m going on an adventure,’ like Luke doesn’t make her any less Force-ful.
"I think the amazing thing about (Episode VII) is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think it’s so important because I don’t really think it is."
Daisy – who was selected as the winner of the Breakthrough Performance prize at the MTV Movie Awards – also shot down fan speculation that new ‘Star Wars’ character Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones in spin-off prequel ‘Rogue One’, could be Rey’s mother.
She laughed: "I’m not being funny you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair … it doesn’t mean she’s my mum".
‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios in England and sees Daisy joined by John Boyega as Finn again, Adam Driver back as Kylo Ren, Carrie Fisher reprising her role as General Leia Organa and Gwendoline Christie returning as Captain Phasma.
It is scheduled for release in December 2017.
