Critics Choice TV Award winners announced

‘Orange Is the New Black’ and ‘Fargo’ were the big winners at the
Critics’ Choice Television Awards last night (19.06.14).
The Netflix comedy-drama and the FX series each scooped three prizes at the Broadcast Television Journalists Association’s fourth annual ceremony, while ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Cosmos’, ‘The Normal Heart’ and actress Allison Janney took home two trophies each.
‘Orange Is the New Black’ picked up Best Comedy, while its star Kate Mulgrew shared the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series prize with ‘Mom’ star Allison and Uzo Aduba won Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series.
Meanwhile, ‘Fargo’ was named Best Mini-Series, Billy Bob Thornton took home Best Actor in a Movie or Mini-Series and Allison Tolman won Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series.
Matthew McConaughey – who already picked up an Oscar, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards this year – was named Best Actor in a Drama Series for his work on ‘True Detective’.
In his speech, the ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ actor paid tribute to the great work being done on the small screen.
He said: "Television is raising the bar for character-driven drama."
Other notable winners on the night included ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy, who was honoured with the Louis XIII Genius Award, and used his acceptance speech to read out a number of negative tweets about himself – which he promptly agreed with, much to the amusement of the audience at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The ceremony was hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.
