Craig David’s sixth MOBO

Craig David received his sixth MOBO at the Pre-MOBO Awards Show on Monday night (20.11.17).
The ‘Heartline’ singer – who releases his new album ‘The Time Is Now’ on January 26 – picked up Best R&B/Soul Act at the bash held at Boisdale, Canary Wharf in London, which comes ahead of the annual ceremony held at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on November 29.
Of his latest award, the 36-year-old heartthrob wrote on Twitter: "Thank you so much! So honoured & grateful to win tonight! #TheTimeIsNOW #MOBOAwards (sic)"
Craig’s latest win follows his Best R&B Act, Best UK Newcomer and Best UK Single gongs from 2000, Best UK Act in 2001 and last year’s Best Male Act.
It comes after Gregory Porter was presented with the MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
The jazz singer/songwriter said: "I am truly privileged to receive the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award from the MOBOs. It is a great honour and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in my career so far. Nat King Cole was my earliest musical inspiration so it seems fitting that I dedicate this award to him."
Now all eyes will be on the main event, which will see the likes of Cardi B, Krept & Konan, Stefflon Don, Yungen and Yxng Bane take to the stage.
Stormzy leads the nominations this year with five nods.
The 24-year-old grime artist – whose real name is Michael Omari – is in the running for both Best Male and Best Grime Act, as well as Best Album for his debut record ‘Gangs Signs & Prayer’ and Best Song and Best Video for ‘Big For Your Boots’.
However, his rival J Hus is nipping at his heels as he has managed to bag four nominations himself in the Best Male section, Best Album category for ‘Common Sense’, Best Song for ‘Did You See’ and Best Video for ‘Spirit’.
Following closely behind with three nominations each are Jorja Smith and Stefflon Don – who are both up for Best Female and Best Newcomer – while Mercury Prize winner Sampha will be hoping to add to his trophy collection by walking away with the gongs for Best Male, Best R&B/Soul Act and Best Album.
Other nominees include Skepta, Solange Knowles, Emeli Sande, DJ Khaled, Drake, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.
