Corrie cast ‘on edge’ about firings

The ‘Coronation Street’ cast are "on edge" about being axed after Iain MacLeod took over the reins of the soap.
Lucy Fallon has revealed she and her co-stars fear they could be culled from the cobbles with the ‘Emmerdale’ boss taking over at the rival ITV show, but she admits the mood on set was the same when outgoing series producer Kate Oates first took over.
She said: "Everyone’s on edge thinking, ‘Am I going to get killed off?’
"It’s exciting to see what kind of things he’s going to do, but it’s normal to feel nervous, I think – people were like that when Kate came in."
The 22-year-old actress scooped two prizes, Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance, at the recent British Soap Awards, but admitted she nearly didn’t go up to collect one of her gongs because she was worried soap supporters would be angry that Emmerdale’s Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle) hadn’t won the Best Actress gong.
Speaking to Fabulous magazine, she added: "I just was not expecting it. When they said it was me, I was like – and I think you can actually see on the clip – I kind of go, ‘F**king hell!’ I really, really, really couldn’t believe it.
"And then I was quite nervous because I thought the fans who were chanting for Emma were all going to boo me, so I almost didn’t want to go up."
Lucy’s concerns come just two weeks after she admitted Bethany could be axed from the soap within six months.
When asked how long she plans to stay on the show, she said: "As long as they’ll have me! Hopefully they won’t kill me off, but you just don’t know – it could be six months and I’m gone."
