Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd teases ‘happier’ storylines for David Platt

Jack P. Shepherd says there are "happier" storylines to come for his ‘Coronation Street’ character.
The 30-year-old actor’s alter-ego David Platt has suffered a horrific year which saw him raped by mechanic Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) and he then suffered suicidal thoughts as he tried to deal with the consequences without talking to anyone – but the hairdresser looks set for a cheerful Christmas.
Jack said: "It’s been a hell of a year for David. But he’s a lot happier now and he’s got through it with the help of his family.
"Things are going to be happier for David, so I’m told."
Josh’s downfall saw him go blind before finally admitting he raped David, who, rather than go to the police, let his nemesis go free because he had got his life back and didn’t have any evidence.
While some ‘Corrie’ fans thought David should’ve made sure Josh got his comeuppance with the law, Jack believes it was the "right ending" to the hard-hitting plot.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, he added: "This sent him in the right direction and he can now speak about the attack.
"It was the right ending because David couldn’t do anything with the police because there was no evidence.
"He became the bigger man by dealing with Josh himself."
While David looks set for a happy 2019, Julia Goulding, who plays his significant other Shona Ramsey, recently revealed there is a huge story ahead for the Platt family, and she is keen for her character to "get a bit bad again".
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "There are some really good stories coming up for Shona, and obviously I can’t tell you much about them.
"But it’s been nice to have some light relief since the rape storyline, so I’m really looking forward to getting back into the nitty gritty drama. It’s nice to be able to do both.
"I’d like to see her go off the rails again. From what she came in as I’ve been allowed to explore so many different colours to her personality.
"I’d be excited to get a bit bad again."
