Coronation Street’s Carla considers secret abortion

‘Coronation Street’s’ Carla Barlow will consider having a secret abortion.

The boss of the soap’s Underworld factory, played by Alison King, is stunned to find herself expecting her first child with new husband Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne), but when her best friend Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) suspects she’s plotting a secret termination, she pleads with her pal to come clean.

Michelle will scold Carla, saying: "You can’t keep something like this a secret from your husband. You wouldn’t have an abortion without telling him would you?"

However, as the pregnancy wasn’t planned and Carla feels like she wouldn’t make a very good mother, she hits back at Michelle.

According to the Daily Star newspaper, Carla argues: "What he [Peter] doesn’t know won’t hurt him. I’d be a lousy mother, like my mother before me. What if I don’t like it? I can’t just sack my own baby."

The Weatherfield businesswoman, played by 40-year-old Alison, also has a frosty relationship with Peter’s son Simon (Alex Bain) from a previous marriage and thinks another child would take even more of her husband’s attention away from her.

She continues: "Peter puts Simon before everything, even me. A baby changes everything, he’ll trade me in for a younger model."

Unknown to Carla, Peter has already been playing away from home with a younger woman in the shape of Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan), who is set to be killed off later this year.
