Coronation Street’s Carla Connor ‘to have huge mental breakdown’

Coronation Street’s Carla Connor is to have a "huge mental breakdown" in the wake of the factory collapse.
The Weatherfield resident – played by Alison King – has found it tough to cope after her knicker factory roof fell onto several cobbles favourites, including Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia), who died as a result.
The businesswoman will end up in hospital and put on anti-psychotic drugs after feeling the pressure because of Rana’s death and several of the locals being unemployed due to the factory being closed.
A source said: "It all gets a bit much for Carla in the aftermath of the roof collapse and the pressure on her to keep people in jobs and the factory open.
"She eventually has a huge mental breakdown."
Carla is suspected of potential wrongdoing following the terrible tragedy, but she has been leaning on on/off flame and fellow recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) for support.
And she will choose him to look after her again when she is discharged from hospital – even though the former bookie is set for a rehab stint himself when he falls off the wagon in upcoming scenes, before trying to stay off booze again to look after her.
The source added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: "Before she’s discharged she is put on anti-psychotic drugs and told she needs someone to look after her around the clock.
"Much to her family’s confusion, she chooses Peter, with him quitting rehab to do so."
The latest plot news comes months after Alison admitted she would like her ‘Corrie’ character to settle down because it would be "far easier to play" lighter segments rather than her usual rocky romance scenes.
She said: "I’ve had a lot of drama, it is nice to get a balance and play the lighter stuff and some comedy."
