Coronation Street hunts for new writers

‘Coronation Street’ bosses are on the hunt for new script writers.
The long-running ITV show – which has been on air since 1960 – has been slapped with criticism over the past few months as some viewers believe it’s becoming "too dark" after Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) was groomed and, therefore, producers are looking for a new batch of writers to help bring the soap back to its traditional roots
In an advert on ITV careers site, the bosses are looking for aspiring writers to join a "storyliner workshop" but, even then, it doesn’t guarantee a permanent job at the end.
The advert reads: "How would you like to work in the engine room of the world’s longest-running continuing drama? You will need to have a keen passion for ‘Corrie’, a flair for creative writing and love working in a tight-knit team, then come to our workshop and join our talent pool now! This is not an open vacancy you will only be contacted should a role become live that we would like to speak to you about, these are likely to be short term FTC or freelance opportunities."
The closing date for applications is February 6 and successful candidates will be invited to a workshop – held on February 26 – at the soap’s studios in Manchester.
Meanwhile, although some viewers are against the new "dark" turn the soap has taken, Lucy’s gripping performance as Bethany won her Best Actress at the National Television Awards (NTAs) earlier this week at London’s The O2 arena.
As she collected her trophy, Lucy – who was in tears – said: "Thank you to everybody, all of the cast, my Platt family – Tina [O’Brien] and Colson [Smith] because he’d kill me if I didn’t mention him, and everybody who voted. My family, my mum, my dad, my boyfriend Tom, thank you so much to everybody."
