Coronation Street director wants more Hollywood stunts in soap

‘Coronation Street’ director Matt Hilton thinks the show should feature more Hollywood-style stunts.
The TV mastermind – who has been directing the hit ITV soap since 2014 – thinks the programme needs to crank it up a notch because these days TV shows are expected to be just as impressive as films.
Matt told the Daily Star newspaper: "I think the audience expects more.
"I think with things like Netflix and Amazon, TV budgets have gone up so much now they’re more like film budgets."
The director also thinks that even though the Manchester-based soap has a "limited set" and "limited budget", it still needs to "keep up" with the other shows so it attracts a new generation of viewers.
He said: "’Coronation Street’ has a limited set, a limited budget and we have limits on what we can do and what we can’t do.
"I think we have got to try and keep up with everyone. That’s the way we’ll attract different generations of viewers as well."
While Matt wants to make ‘Coronation Street’ more visually stunning, the show will hang on to their "beloved characters", such as Ken Barlow (William Roache).
He said: "We’ll still see Ken and we’ll still see our beloved characters but maybe we can just tell the stories in a more entertaining way or a visually more stunning way."
This comes after it was recently revealed the soap’s guide dog Mr Quinn is retiring after six years.
The talented pooch – whose first scenes were alongside Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) – worked with blind extra Annie Giles-Quinn, but he will no longer be pawing along the cobbles as she now has a new ‘Corrie’ canine, Miss Sally.
Bill is a huge admirer of the four-legged friend.
Annie previously spoke of the adorable animal and said: "He’s so calm and beautiful. William Roache summed it up when he said, ‘Mr Quinn looks right into your soul’."
