Coronation Street cast ‘shocked’ by how common sexting is

The ‘Coronation Street’ cast "can’t believe" how many young people are sexting.
Actress Tanisha Gorey’s character Asha Alahan is caught up in a serious storyline on the cobbles after Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) saw a video of her stripping for boyfriend Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) when she looked at his phone at a party, and shared the intimate clip on a group chat.
Asked who has been supporting her with the storyline, Tanisha told Digital Spy: "I’d say Jimmi Harkishin who plays Dev – we’re very, very close.
"We go through our scripts to make sure we get the right feel in the scenes. We’re father and daughter in the show, so we need to show a close bond.
"Everyone has been very supportive but I think they’re also really shocked – they can’t believe it’s such a common issue that we need to raise awareness of."
Tanisha hopes the storyline can help younger ‘Corrie’ fans by showing them "the consequences of sexting", particularly with even the cast themselves being educated by the plot.
She added: "I think it’s so important to raise awareness of what could happen and the consequences of sexting, as this is so common.
"The issue is everywhere and people don’t realise what kind of effect it could have on you."
And the star made sure to do her own research into the issue, which is how she likes to work as an actress.
She explained: "I did some research personally, as I like to know what I’m getting into! I did quite a lot of research, actually, and it was the same with the skin lightening story last year.
"I found out about the statistics around this issue, how it comes about and the different forms it can take. I also looked into the aftermath, with social media and how it can potentially affect your life for a long time afterwards."
