Chuck D says Kanye West’s pro-Donald Trump tweets were ‘lunacy’

Chuck D says Kanye West’s decision to endorse Donald Trump was "lunacy".
The 57-year-old rapper has revealed he was unsurprised by the outspoken star’s decision to come out in support of the US President, but Chuck has claimed that his rap-rock super-group Prophets of Rage can help to combat views similar to Kanye’s.
Chuck explained: "I’m not surprised that he did that. That’s why we formed Prophets of Rage to rally against that lunacy."
Chuck’s collective features three members of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, as well as two members of Public Enemy and Cypress Hill’s B-Real.
Despite his dim view of Kanye’s tweets, Chuck feels like American society has improved markedly in the time between forming Public Enemy and Prophets of Rage.
Speaking to ShortList magazine, Chuck shared: "It’s improved. There are more women rapping than ever, they’ve just been unheralded. All around the world, more people are using hip hop as a platform to call things out and relate to a whole bunch of different issues. That’s its power.
"Government and regimes separate human beings – they identify us throughout characteristics, instead of our character. Music and culture connect us under one accord. Hip-hop will always be creative and make a bad situation good."
Chuck – whose real name is Carlton Ridenhour – is an avid tweeter, boasting more than 600,000 followers.
But the rap legend has revealed why he restricts himself to the one social media platform, rather than creating accounts on sites such as Instagram and Facebook.
He explained: "I have a rule: once you’re over 50, only do one social media. Mine is Twitter. A lot of people do it wrong. People use their gadgets as toys, rather than as tools."
Kanye attracted widespread criticism from within the hip hop community last month when he came out in support of President Trump.
The ‘Famous’ hitmaker also previously made a personal visit to see the US President at Trump Tower in New York City.
