Christopher Lambert: Mortal Kombat film to have time travel

The new ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie is going to have a time travel theme, actor Christopher Lambert has revealed.
The 59-year-old actor has confirmed that he is in talks to reprise his role as god of thunder Raiden in the film, originally announced by New Line cinema in 2011.
Lambert – who first played the part of the fighter in the original 1995 movie – has seen a script and is very excited about the inter-dimensional time travelling element to the plot.
In an interview with website Loaded.co.uk, he said: "They have a great idea for the third one. It will be very different.
"We are going to be travelling through time, but in a very special way. Imagine characters having a battle in the middle of London and then whoosh, you smash through a window and find yourself on the hood of a New York cab."
Lambert also revealed why he spurned the chance to return as Raiden in the 1997 sequel ‘Mortal Kombat: Annihilation’.
He added: "I didn’t want to do it because I didn’t think the script was very good. I didn’t like it. I liked the first one."
‘Saw’ creator James Wan is on board to produce the ‘Mortal Kombat’ reboot inspired by Midway Games’ super-popular and super-violent fighting video game series which began in 1992.
A script is being written by Oren Uziel and Dave Callaham, who previously worked together on web series ‘Mortal Kombat Legacy’ and ‘The Expendables’.
The new ‘Mortal Kombat’ movie will add to the list of projects James is preparing to take on, which includes directing ‘The Conjuring 2’ and ‘Aquaman’ for Warner Bros.
