Christopher Eccleston to star in Safe House

Christopher Eccleston is to star in new ITV series ‘Safe House’.

The 50-year-old actor will take on a lead role in the four-part drama series alongside his ‘The Leftovers’ co-star Paterson Joseph and ‘White Collar’ actress Marsha Thomason.

The thriller tells the story of married couple Robert (Christopher), a former detective, and Katy (Marsha), a teacher, who are asked by a close friend and police officer Mark (Paterson), to turn their remote guest house into a safe house.

Former ‘Doctor Who’ star Christopher’s character will uncover a web of lies after re-questioning an incident which saw his lead witness shot before she had the chance to testify against her gangland husband when he’s tasked with protecting a family in fear of their lives when they move into his ‘Safe House’.

The drama, which was inspired by a real couple, was created and written by Michael Crompton and is to be directed by Marc Evans, produced by Andrew Benson and executive produced by Paula Cuddy and Jill Green.

Jill said of the project: "This brilliant idea for a psychological thriller has attracted a strong cast – and will keep viewers gripped."

Shooting on ‘Safe House’ – which will also star Emmerdale’s Jason Merrells, Nicola Stephenson and Peter Ferdinando – began today (06.10.14) in the Lake District.
