Christoph Waltz will play a "significant" role in ‘Bond 24’.
The ‘Django Unchained’ star has reportedly signed up to star in the latest instalment in the spy film franchise – which does not yet have a confirmed title – although it’s unclear whether his character will be a friend or enemy of Daniel Craig’s James Bond.
A source revealed: "It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both."
The cast, which also includes Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux and Rory Kinnear, are said to be preparing for a read-through of the script in under three weeks’ time.
However, although the character Waltz – who starred as Nazi Colonel Hans Landa in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ – is set to portray has been described as "extremely cunning" and a "nemesis of sorts", sources close to the film are keen to keep details under wrap.
An insider told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Not so fast…just because he’s played bad guys on other movies doesn’t mean he’s going to be the baddie here."
The 58-year-old actor – who will next appear in ‘Horrible Bosses 2’ and recently wrapped filming on ‘Tarzan’ – will be under the direction of ‘Skyfall’ boss Sam Mendes.
Shooting for ‘Bond 24’ is scheduled to begin early next month.
