Chris Gascoyne’s ‘joyful’ Sally Carman scenes

Chris Gascoyne says shooting ‘Coronation Street’ scenes with Sally Carman have been "a joy" because she is "brilliantly instinctive".
The 51-year-old actor’s alter-ego Peter Barlow has grown close to Sally’s character Abi Franklin in recent weeks, and he has loved filming with the former ‘Shameless’ star because the pair have a "good laugh".
He said: "It’s been fantastic, she’s a real pleasure. The scenes haven’t been hard because she’s a brilliantly instinctive actress so anything just comes out of her – a moment that’s not meant to be will just happen and she will play it and it’s a joy because you never quite know what the scenes going to be or how it’s going to play out.
"You have an idea of what you need to do in the scene but with someone like Sally it’s exciting to play because it’s an instinctive thing.
"I’ve really enjoyed it and we have got on fantastically. We have had a great relationship and it’s been a good laugh while we were doing it."
While the pair have been getting on like a boat on fire, Chris admits shooting scenes on his character’s vessel – on which a blaze is to break out, leaving his son Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) fighting for his life – has been "freezing and cramped".
He said: "There’s been lots of days and night in that boat and on top of that boat and it’s been freezing and it’s cramped. It’s really been a great time I really enjoyed the whole storyline."
Despite Peter and Abi getting close, Chris insists his alter-ego still holds a torch for his ex Carla Connor (Ali King), and has dropped a huge hint they may reconcile.
He added: "It’s unfinished business and unless they move to the other end of the world, and just carried on living without each other, they could get back together.
"But the spark is always there while they are still around each other."
