Chris Evans: Birdman is like group therapy

Chris Evans has likened the movie ‘Birdman’ to "group therapy".

The 33-year-old actor, who stars in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’, has revealed he’s a huge fan of the Oscar-winning comedy-drama film and admitted it helped to ease some of his insecurities.

He explained: "The last movie I saw: ‘Birdman’. Loved it. It was very helpful to me. Sometimes in this business, it’s easy to feel like you’re the only one struggling or you’re the only one who has these anxieties or insecurities. It’s a tricky business, a very heady business.

"Actors in general are heady people. Just seeing a movie so beautiful bringing to life someone who is struggling with all those things I just mentioned … it felt like a support group or something. It was nice. It was just nice to relate."

What’s more, Chris confessed he was anxious about starring in his first standalone Captain America movie, which was released in 2011.

He told Esquire magazine: "The first [Captain America] was the most intense because you just don’t know how the character’s going to be received, you don’t know how you’re going to be received portraying the character.

"With the second one, there’s a little less pressure, but again, you still don’t want to be the weak link in the chain. Marvel’s got such a track record for making quality work, you don’t want to be a dud. But even their worst movies are better than what any other studio could hope to be making. It can only get so bad at Marvel."
