Liam Payne has revealed Cheryl almost ended their relationship.
The former One Direction singer was devastated when the pop star rung him up to voice her concerns about their romance shortly after they started dating, but he was determined not to give up without a fight and "clung on" to her by reassuring her everything was going to be OK.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: "There’s one song [on his debut solo album] that is basically a phone call that happened between me and her when she was about to let it go.
"This is a long time ago. And it’s basically me trying to cling on and say: ‘No, no, no it’s all going to work out — don’t worry about it, give it time."
But luckily, despite their 10-year age gap initially raising a few eyebrows, the pair have managed to stay together and now have a two-month-old son called Bear between them.
However, the 23-year-old heartthrob is currently in the US doing a promotional tour for his debut single ‘Strip That Down’ while Cheryl and Bear are waiting for him back in the UK.
He explained: "Me and Cheryl, our relationship is amazing and I put that down to her support more than anything, she’s just so great.
"Obviously I’ve just started being a dad and also I’m promoting my single and she gives me no bother about it. She’s like: ‘You’ve got to go out and do your job, do your job.’ That’s how she is with it and Bear’s beautiful and I love him and I miss him terribly."
Liam first met Cheryl when he was just 14 years old during an audition for the UK talent competition ‘The X Factor’ as she was a judge on the show at the time.
They then struck up a relationship shortly after the 33-year-old beauty ended her marriage with her second husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini but they didn’t go public with their romance until May 2016 when they made a red carpet appearance at an event in London.
