Charlie Condou joins Holby City

Charlie Condou has joined the cast of ‘Holby City’.
The 46-year-old actor – who is best known for his portrayal of midwife Marcus Dent in ‘Coronation Street’ from 2007 to 2014 – will portray locum surgeon Ben Sherwood, a "charming, alpha consultant" in the medical drama and he "can’t wait" to start filming.
Charlie said: "I’m over the moon to be joining ‘Holby City’ as suave new Doctor Ben Sherwood. He’s a good guy but will definitely be ruffling a few feathers over the coming months. I can’t wait to get started!"
And ‘Holby’ bosses are delighted to have such a "fine" actor on board.
Executive producer Simon Harper said: "Charlie’s a very fine actor and well known popular TV face – and we are very lucky to have tempted him to ‘Holby’. I can’t wait to see him as Ben, both causing a stir and getting under the skin of his colleagues on Keller."
While Ben is set to cause a stir, he won’t be doing anything too dramatic.
After the news broke, Kirstie Allsopp tweeted: "I read that as Killer ward."
Charlie replied: "I don’t think he’s THAT kind of doctor."
Charlie will be making his first appearance on the show as Ben in December.
The actor previously admitted he wouldn’t rule out a return to ‘Corrie’ in the future.
She said: "I think the door is open. I don’t know. They were very nice when I said I wanted to leave and they said, ;The door will be open, we’re not killing you off.’
"So I would imagine the option is always there. I don’t think it’s right for me at the moment. I’m very happy doing what I’m doing but never say never. I love that show."
