Charli XCX proves critics wrong

Charli XCX feels she’s "proved people wrong" after scoring a huge hit with ‘Fancy’.

The 21-year-old singer – who provides the chorus on the song – says she and rapper Iggy Azalea have had the last laugh against their critics after the track topped the US Billboard Hot 100 earlier this year.

Charli explained: "People give Iggy a hard time because she’s Australian and white and female and apparently that’s weird thing, which I don’t get.

"People also view me as an underdog, so I think it’s cool that we came together and had this girl power moment and were No.1 in the States for seven weeks. We really proved everyone wrong, which I think is really cool."

The British songstress, who also featured on Icona Pop’s hit song ‘I Love It’, is happy to be riding high on the charts but she doesn’t worry about falling out of fashion.

She told the Metro newspaper: "I would never change my style or my way of song-writing to fit in with what other people think is cool or commercial. It’s cool people now think my s**t is cool – but I won’t change if it becomes not cool either."

The ‘Boom Clap’ singer toured with Coldplay in 2012 and is hoping to secure a collaboration with frontman Chris Martin.

She enthused: "To collaborate would definitely be cool. I think Chris is one of the best, top-line writers around at the moment."
