Charli XCX declares the end of Brat Summer as fans await her next move

Charli XCX has bid farewell to “Brat Summer”.

The ‘Apple’ hitmaker has shared a roundup of TikTok videos from the viral pop culture phenomenon she created with her latest LP ‘Brat’, which saw the party persona and the sickly green colour used on her album cover takeover social media, fashion and even the US presidential election.

However, the hyperpop star has taken to social media to declare the end of an era.

She captioned the clips on Instagram: “Goodbye forever brat summer.”

Describing a Brat girl, Charli had said: “That girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown.

“But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like does dumb things. But it’s Brat. You’re Brat. That’s Brat.”

‘Uncut Gems’ actress Julia Fox was part of the inspiration for ‘Brat’.

Charli – who made headlines for branding US Vice President runner Kamala Harris a “brat” as a compliment – is hotly tipped to win the Mercury Prize with ‘Brat’ on Thursday (05.09.24).

In a record high for the award nominations, eight of the 12 shortlisted artists are women or female-fronted bands, including Corinne Bailey Rae, Cat Burns, CMAT, The Last Dinner Party, and Nia Archives.

Last year, the Mercury Prize was won for the first time by a jazz act, with Ezra Collective taking the gong for their second release, ‘What I’m Meant to Be’.
