Charley Webb praises Corrie for male suicide storyline

Charley Webb has praised ‘Coronation Street’ for tackling the issue of male suicide in Aiden Connor’s exit storyline.
The ‘Emmerdale’ star – who plays Debbie Dingle in the fellow ITV soap – has called the programme "amazing" for the way it has dealt with such a sensitive subject, and chosen to highlight it as actor Shayne Ward leaves the show.
Taking to Twitter to offer her thoughts on the storyline, the 30-year-old actress wrote: "I think it’s amazing that @itvcorrie are covering this tragic story. Too many people take their own lives every day.
"Another example of my best friend’s amazing work. Well done Kate Oates. Xxx [sic]"
She is not the only ‘Emmerdale’ star to praise ‘Corrie’ for the storyline, as Nicola Wheeler, 44, also suggested the show had gone about it in the right way under the guidance of Kate Oates.
She tweeted: "Well done to Corrie and Kate Oates for raising awareness. Heartbreaking subject but something too many families are having to deal with. (sic)"
Meanwhile, series producer Kate has revealed a therapist was enlisted on set to talk to cast and crew members if they were affected by the storyline.
She said: "We had a therapist who people could talk to if they wanted to on set each day. Obviously we’re a massive company at ‘Coronation Street’ and everybody has a very different experience of suicide."
Kate has found the storyline to be a "cathartic experience" because people she "barely knows" have divulged their inner thoughts and feelings to her as a result of the serious plot.
She added to the Daily Star newspaper: "I’ve felt so close to people that I barely know, because people have opened up and it’s been a cathartic experience."
