Catherine Tyldesley’s dance teacher was "very surprised" she’s signed up for ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress used to do her best to "avoid" classes at drama school, and she admitted her drive for the BBC Latin and ballroom show is to "prove" she can finally master the skill.
She said: "I am a huge fan of the show. I’ve tried to watch it as much as I can since the first show. But I also can’t dance.
"I went to drama school but I never had the confidence to take part in the dance classes – often I’d avoid them completely. I was a lot bigger than I am now and I just didn’t enjoy it!
"My old dance teacher was very surprised when she heard I was doing this! I want to prove to myself I can do it. I want to learn a new skill."
The 35-year-old star revealed she was definitely be "nervous" when it comes to making her ‘Strictly’ debut but she’s excited to wear the glamorous outfits.
She added: "The dresses! The dresses! The costumes are breath-taking. I am a girly girl, so that’s probably the thing I am most excited abut.
"I can’t wait to get glammed up every week. Hopefully even if my dancing’s bad, my dress will look great."
Despite being apprehensive about the dancing, Catherine admitted she was encouraged by fellow soap stars like Tina O’Brien and Gemma Atkinson, who also took on the challenge without much experience.
She said: "They weren’t really dancers before they started either but they both said it was amazing.
"Lisa Riley was the same. They said if you are ever given the opportunity to do ‘Strictly’, I should go for it. So I knew I’d made the right decision."
