Cate Blanchett reveals ambition to play a dwarf


Cate Blanchett was "desperate" to play a dwarf in ‘The Hobbit’ films.

The 45-year-old actress – who plays Lady Galadriel in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ trilogies – has expressed her disappointment at not being given the opportunity to dress up as one of the hairy mythical creatures.

According to ET Canada, she said: "I was so desperate to play a dwarf. The facial hair. You go into the wig room. Oh my god. The beard."

Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom – who stars as elf Legolas in the film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels – was more sentimental about the iconic franchise coming to an end.

Speaking at Comic-Con the 37-year-old actor – who appears in all three LOTR films and two of three Hobbit films – explained: "It’s a truly passionate event, and I feel very fortunate that I’m getting to see it on the last installment of a journey that’s been so special for me."

The last film in ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, ‘The Battle of the Five Armies, is to be released on December 12, 2014.

Bloom is joined on the cast by Sir Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, ‘Lost’ star Evangeline Lilly and Luke Evans.
