Casting begins for Prince Frederik biopic

Casting has begun for a biopic based on the life of Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik.

Danish actor and director Christian Tafdrup has revealed that he is in the process of casting actors for his new film, ‘Frederik’s Young Years’.

The movie will document 12 years of the now 46-year-old royal’s life starting from 1990 and finishing two years before his marriage to Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark in 2004.

Christian said: "It’s a fictional film about the royal family built on facts, inspired by the international wave of biopics about living people.

"It can be a dangerous area, but that is also part of the motivation."

Explaining his decision to base his biopic on the Crown Prince, Christian told the Danish film magazine Ekko: "Royals are good characters in films.

"They have a god-like status and at the same time they must face the same challenges as everyone else."

However, he told New Idea magazine that is fully aware that the subject of his movie might have some objections.

He said: "I accept that the royal family may not be happy at the prospect of my film. But it is not my intention to upset them."
