Bruno Tonioli lives ‘like a nun’ during Strictly filming

Bruno Tonioli lives "like a nun" for two months when he is judging ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 62-year-old star is so busy when he is working on ‘Strictly’ and the US version that he refrains from going for nights out, preferring to hit the gym.
He told Radio Times magazine: "I don’t go out for two months. I stay home in the evening.
"I go the gym and stay fit. It’s like being a nun.
"By the end I’m exhausted. Never mind Lady Gaga, it’s Bruno Gaga. But I’m very lucky and I will do it for as long as they want me."
As well as being a high-profile TV judge, the hard-working BBC star recently returned to Radio 2 for a second series of his show ‘Bruno Tonioli at The Opera’ – and says that his love for music and performance stems from his Italian heritage, claiming that a passion for opera is "part of his DNA".
He said: "I’m from the Emilia Romagna region, where Giuseppe Verdi was born, so it’s something you’re aware of from a young age.
"At school we were taught Va, Pensiero, the very famous aria from the opera ‘Nabucco’.
"It’s part of my DNA, I’m not an expert, I’m a member of the public who loves it."
Bruno believes opera is "a great art form" that should be accessible to everyone.
He said: "We should not feel intimidated. It’s a great art form that should not be forgotten.
"And in fact in the 19th century operas were very popular and they’d be performed in the street – the equivalent of watching an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical now."
