Bruno Tonioli: It wouldn’t be fair to judge Strictly virtually

Bruno Tonioli thinks it would be "a bit naff" if he judged virtually on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

The 64-year-old star – who is currently based in Los Angeles – won’t be able to take part in his usual capacity as a judge in the studio this year due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

And while he has his own segment, he doesn’t think it would be "fair" on the contestants and his fellow judges – Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse – if he was still able to judge the celebs via video link from across the pond.

Appearing on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Tuesday (15.09.20), he said: "I will watch the show and I will do a little segment, which will be shown on the results show. It will be an overview because I think it wouldn’t be right for me to interfere in the judging process because I’m not there. There are things that you see when they are eight feet away from you. It’s not quite the same when you see a shot cut in different ways.

"Craig, Shirley and Motsi know exactly what they’re doing – I’m not going to interfere. It’s not fair, it’s a bit naff actually.

"What I will do is like my point of view, pointing out this and that, and I’m glad I am able to do it."

The full lineup for this year’s series features former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, singer HRVY, ‘EastEnders’ actress Maisie Smith and ‘Made In Chelsea’ star Jamie Laing.

Comedian Bill Bailey, BBC Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo, ex-NFL star Jason Bell and Invictus Games medallist JJ Chalmers are also set to compete in this year’s show, and ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter Ranvir Singh, The Wanted singer Max George, actress Caroline Quentin, and boxer Nicola Adams – who is taking part in the first same-sex pairing on the programme – complete the line up.
