Bruce Springsteen shares anti-ICE protest song Streets of Minneapolis

Bruce Springsteen has released the anti-ICE protest song Streets of Minneapolis.

The Boss shared the emotive new single on Wednesday (28.01.26) in response to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed in separate incidents at the hands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the US city this month.

Springsteen said in a statement: “I wrote this song on Saturday (24.01.26), recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis.

“It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbours and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

“Stay free.”

The lyrics paint a bleak picture of unrest, describing how “a city aflame fought fire and ice ‘neath an occupier’s boots” and brands ICE as “King (Donald) Trump’s private army from the DHS”.

Springsteen, 76, honours the victims directly in Streets of Minneapolis, singing: “There were bloody footprints / Where mercy should have stood / And two left to die on snow-filled streets / Alex Pretti and Renee Good.”

The Dancing in the Dark rocker has been an ardent critic of US President Donald Trump and called for ICE to “get the f*** out of Minneapolis” during a recent appearance on stage in New Jersey.

Springsteen said: “If you believe in the power of the law and that no one stands above it, if you stand against heavily armed masked federal troops invading an American city, using Gestapo tactics against our fellow citizens, if you believe you don’t deserve to be murdered for exercising your right to protest, send a message to this president as the mayor of that city (Jacob Frey) has said, ICE should get the f*** out of Minneapolis.”

The Born in the USA artist also branded Trump’s administration as “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous” during a concert in Manchester last year.

He said: “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.

“Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experiment to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring!”
